Laha and Ri’s Magic Life – The 2nd Story [Android]

Editorial Review

★4.2 / 5 — henhenta editorial rating (our own assessment, not the DLsite official user score)

This is a narrative-driven RPG that positions itself as a direct sequel within an established magical academy mystery framework, capitalizing on continuity rather than standalone accessibility. The shift from garden-focused slice-of-life to institutional intrigue signals a deliberate genre escalation—moving toward mystery thriller territory while retaining the foundational magic-system worldbuilding that anchored the first installment.

The work’s distinctive appeal lies in its commitment to long-form serialized storytelling. By spanning over a year of in-universe time and introducing a new institutional setting (Éclair Academy), the developers create structural distance from the original while maintaining character momentum for returning players. The “death magic” plot thread positions this as darker than typical academy narratives, and the explicit framing as a “full-fledged magical mystery RPG novel” suggests hybrid gameplay integrating investigation mechanics with traditional visual novel progression. The inclusion of save backup functionality and APK packaging indicates mobile-first optimization without sacrificing preservation features—a practical choice that acknowledges player investment in longer works.

The inclusion of original music and the emphasis on new character development suggest production care typically reserved for premium doujin releases. For a sequel operating in a relatively niche space—magical academia mysteries with sustained narrative arcs—this level of continuation investment is noteworthy.

Ideal for players invested in the original’s worldbuilding who crave narrative complexity and don’t mind mysteries that prioritize intrigue over resolution speed. Series continuity is essential; this isn’t an entry point. Readers comfortable with paced institutional mystery storytelling and character-driven worldbuilding will find the extended timeline rewarding.

A thoughtfully structured sequel that treats its premise and audience seriously. The magic academy mystery framework here avoids genre triteness through genuine investment in long-form narrative consequence and production polish.
