    Synopsis

Sumire, a lonely girl who constantly seeks attention on social media, falls victim to a fishing account and agrees to meet up. However, instead of one person, multiple men appear at the meeting place and abduct her to a hotel. During this crisis, she encounters a mysterious woman whose appearance captivates her, but the woman disappears. After escaping and consulting her online counselor “Teacher,” Sumire decides to attend university. There, she unexpectedly reunites with Nazuna—the woman who abandoned her during the abduction. As Sumire awkwardly navigates friendship with an ordinary girl for the first time, she gradually grows closer to Nazuna. Sumire is a socially anxious female student uncertain about her sexuality, while Nazuna is a sociable university student who bears a striking resemblance to Sumire’s online crush.

    Editorial Review

★3.8 / 5 — henhenta editorial rating (our own assessment, not the DLsite official user score)

A premise-driven visual novel that mines discomfort and predatory social dynamics for its narrative engine, “How To Make a Perfect Girlfriend” operates in the psychological thriller space where isolation, manipulation, and sudden salvation blur together. This sits alongside works exploring vulnerability and grooming adjacent themes, though the work’s framing of rescue and subsequent relationship development distinguishes its approach from straightforward trauma narratives.

The synopsis establishes several deliberate friction points: a protagonist hospitalized by social media predation, a mysterious female savior whose sudden reappearance at university feels neither coincidental nor reassuring, and the explicit thematic ambiguity around sexual orientation that frames the relationship as mutual discovery rather than clear trajectory. The presence of “先生” (a mentor or counselor figure) introduces a triangulated dynamic where guidance and manipulation become semantically unstable. The combination of dating sim mechanics with psychological instability and sapphic tension remains comparatively rare in the English-accessible doujin space, which typically compartmentalizes these elements rather than weaving them together.

The multilingual production (Japanese, simplified Chinese, English) and inclusion of voice acting and original music signal professional doujin-tier execution. The tag emphasis on adventure over pure visual novel suggests player agency in route determination, likely tied to how the protagonist navigates her ambiguous feelings toward Nazuna and dependency on her counselor.

This works best for players accustomed to narratives that weaponize emotional vulnerability and those comfortable with romantic arcs built atop foundations of rescue fantasy and unresolved psychological need. Readers seeking conventional wish-fulfillment should look elsewhere; those interested in how sapphic relationships can be constructed through trauma bonding and identity confusion will find substantive material here.

A concentrated exploration of how protection can become possession, and how gratitude can masquerade as desire.
