    Editorial Review

★4.2 / 5 — henhenta editorial rating (our own assessment, not the DLsite official user score)

Lilac ~side Wizard~ sits in the school-fantasy corner of the visual novel space, but it leans toward friendship and coming-of-age drama rather than the romance-driven formula that dominates the market. As an adaptation of a stage series, it also belongs to the smaller group of games built on existing performance IP rather than original concepts.

The most striking feature is the pedigree. Character designs come from illustrator Ashito Oyari, the scenario is written by the stage original’s author Yuka Kono, and development comes from Frontwing, so the game promises visual polish and narrative continuity. The premise is a tidy hook: Emil, a human student who hates wizards because of a childhood trauma, enrolls at a joint academy only to secure money for his mother’s hospital care. He ends up bound by a “fake familiar contract” to Anri, a cheerful, chronically failing wizard whose well-meant spells keep backfiring on him. That pairing of grudge and relentless optimism sets up both comedy and emotional growth. The game also ships in two versions, with this male-cast “Wizard” edition differing from the “Witch” edition in characters, voices, and parts of the story, which gives it real replay value. Voice acting, music, and Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese language support make it unusually accessible for an independent-market release.

Readers who value character-driven fantasy, found-family dynamics, and themes of prejudice and reconciliation will get the most from it, especially fans of stage-adjacent storytelling and polished illustration.

A well-credentialed, warmhearted academy tale that earns its attention through craft and a clever odd-couple premise.
