Synopsis
“Two-Timing Romance” now comes with a special limited edition featuring system voices!!
A comfortable awakening, morning after… and someone’s warmth. “You’re taking responsibility, so… um… date me.” The protagonist, Koga Naoao, only intended to look after Toshiki Kou, a woman he met at a mixer, but gets mistaken for sleeping with her. Before he knows it, they’re dating out of some sense of obligation.
But then Nobuta Yui, the girl he’s had a crush on for ages, unilaterally declares she’ll date him too. “I’ll go out with you! Be happy about it, Koga-kun!”
With no way to refuse her after all his confessions, Naoao suddenly finds himself with two girlfriends—a full-fledged cheater. As he struggles to maintain this precarious two-timing relationship, his social circle begins to shift. Suspicion and doubt grow from those around his girlfriends, and he finds himself increasingly cornered.
Will he sink deeper into an endless romantic quagmire beyond mere two-timing, or can he find a happy ending where no one gets hurt? A completely unpredictable, heartwarming yet nerve-wracking messy romance comedy begins!
Editorial Review
“Two-Timing Romance” lands squarely in the domestic comedy visual novel subgenre—specifically the romantic entanglement flavor that’s been gaining traction as developers move away from pure wish-fulfillment harems toward narratives built on actual relationship friction. What distinguishes this work is its willingness to embrace comedic chaos rather than pretend the protagonist’s situation is sustainable or desirable.
The core mechanic here—accidentally acquiring two simultaneous girlfriends and watching social consequences spiral—inverts the typical multiple-heroine visual novel formula. Rather than smoothly pursuing parallel routes, the protagonist is trapped in real-time awkwardness with both partners simultaneously present and aware of each other. The synopsis hints at escalating complications beyond simple juggling: suspicion from supporting characters, growing doubt from the girlfriends themselves, and a narrative arc that explicitly questions whether this situation has a happy resolution. This uncertainty is refreshing in a genre often designed around inevitable romantic payoffs. The contrast between Toshiki Kou’s obligation-born entrapment and Nobuta Yui’s aggressively cheerful conquest creates inherent dramatic tension rather than relying on player choice alone.
The Moe Game Award 2022 recognition suggests strong character writing and charm despite—or because of—the absurd premise. The slice-of-life framing combined with genuine relationship stakes positions this as comedy that actually has something to say about commitment and honesty.
This will appeal most to visual novel readers who enjoy comedic protagonists actually suffering consequences for their indecision, particularly those tired of consequence-free branching narratives. If you want multiple-heroine dating sims that treat their romantic conflicts as genuine problems rather than menu options, this delivers that specificity.
A genuinely funny take on harem comedy that actually interrogates why two-timing fails.
