Synopsis
You are Tanemaki Gonzo, surrounded by numerous children and grandchildren, facing the end of your life in a distant foreign land far from Japan. Though you’ve never been conventionally handsome, your passion for beautiful women drove you to visit brothels in your youth as a respected patron, and later to volunteer vast sums in impoverished nations in exchange for consequence-free encounters with local beauties. When pregnancies resulted, you ensured the children received education and care into adulthood. While condemned as a scoundrel in Japan for using wealth to exploit women, you were revered by those you helped escape poverty and suffering. After fifty, you established and managed several establishments, dedicating yourself to improving workers’ conditions, sanitation, healthcare, and social support for those seeking to leave. You’ve been kidnapped, nearly killed—yet here you lie, surrounded by over a hundred descendants, dying peacefully in bed. Decades of desperate earning and spending, and still you wish for more time with beautiful women. “Father, is there anything left undone? Anything we can do?” “Nothing for you to do. I’ve lived happily. There’s much left unfinished.” “You still wish to spend time with more women?” “Exactly.” Your children smile through tears. “Just like Father, to the very end.” Even on this beautiful day, you make it rain.
