The year is 1939. Chaos sparked by economic crisis in the great powers spreads across the globe, and nations—still bearing the scars of the last war—plunge into another world-engulfing conflict. The flames of war have reached the island nation of the East as well.

The Empire of Japan, where the Tokugawa Shogunate’s authority remains undiminished. As the nation stirs with excitement over an invasion of the neighboring kingdom of Chutian, a single man sets foot in the imperial capital. Among the shogun’s retainers, the highest-ranking families number four. Chief among them is the Sakai clan. This man, Sanada Yukinari, has received direct orders from Sakai Tadayori, the clan’s daimyo, and is permitted to walk the streets of the imperial capital. Yet his bloodline is forbidden from doing so—a descendant of Sanada Yukimura, who once bared his fangs at the divine ruler Tokugawa Ieyasu.
