Kenjи Nishiyama, an ugly loner scraping by at the bottom of society, suddenly gets fired by his boss at age 28 and becomes unemployed. In a state of despair, he’s eating his favorite Turkish rice at his usual café when he overhears a conversation from the next table. The voices belong to Eriko, a beautiful female doctor with a lustful body, and Kaisuke, a stay-at-home husband. Kenjи watches them—winners in life—and thinks he’ll never cross paths with them again.

But that very day, he spots Kaisuke again in front of a brothel near his favorite establishment. Despite having a beautiful wife, Kaisuke peers eagerly at the signage and storefront, but lacks the courage to enter. When a worker glares at him, he skulks away like a beggar at a bakery.
