THE iDOL Girls: Next GeN

Editorial Review

★3.2 / 5 — henhenta editorial rating (our own assessment, not the DLsite official user score)

This is a straightforward idol illustration collection squarely positioned within the vast landscape of character-focused doujinshi appealing to franchise fans. At 17 pages of high-resolution CG and illustrations centering seven characters in swimwear, it occupies the same niche as countless other idol-adjacent works—fan art compilations designed to capitalize on existing character affection rather than build narrative or thematic depth.

What distinguishes this collection is its geographic origin and professional presentation. Originally released through Thai distribution channels, this work demonstrates how doujinshi culture operates across international markets, with English language support broadening its accessibility beyond traditional Japanese circles. The high-resolution specification suggests attention to image quality, which matters considerably when a work’s entire appeal hinges on illustration fidelity. The swimwear focus is predictable fan service positioning, but the concentration on seven specific characters indicates selective curation rather than indiscriminate fan-art aggregation.

The production credit to Ryusei2u carries weight for collectors familiar with that artist’s illustration style; recognition of the creator matters significantly in illustration-heavy works where the visual approach is inseparable from the product’s value. The CG and illustration hybrid format suggests varied rendering techniques across pages, which can either enhance visual interest through diversity or undermine cohesion depending on execution quality—details the synopsis unfortunately doesn’t clarify.

This lands squarely in the territory of franchise-dependent fan service: its appeal is almost entirely contingent on prior attachment to these seven idols and tolerance for swimwear-focused imagery without narrative justification. Character collectors and franchise enthusiasts will extract obvious value; those seeking illustration work with artistic ambition or thematic substance should look elsewhere. A functional, professionally-produced character collection for a specific, motivated audience.
