    Editorial Review

★3.7 / 5 — henhenta editorial rating (our own assessment, not the DLsite official user score)

Selfcest has remained a niche curiosity in the adult doujin space, but *The Selection of Ouroboros* approaches it with psychological weight that most works in this micro-subgenre sidestep entirely. The framing—two suicidal individuals discovering their mirror image online, then escalating to sexual violation—positions this as something closer to psychological horror manga than conventional erotica. This is the third installment in what appears to be a serialized exploration of self-directed desire, and the addition of futanari elements here signals the creator’s intent to expand rather than repeat.

What distinguishes this work is the marriage of its conceptual premise to its apparent tonal commitment. Rather than treating the selfcest dynamic as pure fantasy fodder, the synopsis emphasizes desperation and self-loathing as the emotional engine driving physical transgression. The characters aren’t celebrating their narcissism; they’re weaponizing it. The inclusion of futanari adds anatomical variety to an otherwise claustrophobic scenario, preventing the work from collapsing into pure sameness. At 26 pages, the creator has room to develop psychological texture without padding.

The multilingual release—English, Chinese Traditional, and Korean—suggests this entry has gained traction beyond Japan’s domestic doujin market, which is notable for a work this thematically specific. That said, the extreme subject matter limits its appeal considerably.

This reaches readers specifically drawn to psychological transgression and body-horror adjacent eroticism who don’t need their adult content to rationalize or romanticize its scenarios. The selfcest premise alone will repel the majority, but those invested in the series’ ongoing exploration of desire-as-despair will find a work unafraid of its own conceptual bleakness. Recommended only for those with a demonstrated appetite for this particular psychological territory.
