Angel Eyes: Maya Chapter 3 – Astral Core [English Ver.]

Editorial Review

★3.7 / 5 — henhenta editorial rating (our own assessment, not the DLsite official user score)

Squarely in the guro-tinged superheroine-defeat corner of adult manga, this third installment of the Maya saga leans into body horror and sci-fi conceits more than most of the genre, which tends to favor straightforward capture-and-corruption setups. The “Contains Grotesqueness” tag is not decoration, and readers should treat it as a real content warning.

What distinguishes the chapter is its escalation structure. Maya gains a new power and a hopeful escape attempt, then is crushed by O.G.R.E., a chimera enemy framed as several times stronger than the O.R.C. she faced before. That power-scaling logic gives the downfall a narrative spine that many one-off defeat doujinshi lack. The central device, her pain perception rewritten as pleasure, turns the horror into a question of agency, since her own body is hijacked against her. The synopsis also gives the carnage a plot purpose: her captors are hunting the source of her abilities, and the removal of the Astral Core works as a real story beat. On the technical side, the full-color 4K presentation across 246 pages and 319 panels is generous. The recap of earlier chapters at the start of the gallery makes it easier to jump in, and the English edition widens access to a niche that often goes untranslated.

Readers who already follow this series, or who specifically seek amputation, abdominal and crotch-focused ryona, and pain-pleasure inversion within a continuing sci-fi action framework, will get the most from it. Anyone uneasy with extreme body-horror themes should steer clear.

Verdict: An unflinching, high-resolution entry in a very specialized niche, best suited to dedicated guro and ryona enthusiasts who want their darkness tied to an ongoing story.
