    Editorial Review

★4.2 / 5 — henhenta editorial rating (our own assessment, not the DLsite official user score)

Fan-made action platformers built on 8-bit conventions are a well-worn corner of the doujin catalog, but most settle for loose homage. TOUHOU ROCK MAIDEN FC sits well outside the visual novel mainstream that dominates the storefront. It is a pure action game, tagged Action and Music, and it commits to the retro conceit instead of just borrowing its look.

The synopsis stresses fidelity. The 2x screen scaling and the color palette are described as deliberately matched to a famous NES-era platformer, which the blurb teases rather than names. The mechanics follow the same template: charge shots, sliding kicks, and a collection of special weapons you are meant to use strategically against each enemy. That points to the pick-your-tool, learn-the-patterns design of classic 8-bit action rather than a modern reinterpretation. The soundtrack is the other major draw. The BGM was arranged by Mr. ARA of Shumi-Workshop, and the Music tag signals that the audio is a core part of the pitch, not an afterthought. Chiptune-style arrangements of familiar material are a strong tradition in this scene, and having a named arranger suggests careful craftsmanship.

The Application tag means it runs as a standalone program. The Recommended Translation tag, along with the Japanese and English language tags, makes it unusually easy for international players to pick up without a language barrier.

It suits players who grew up on 8-bit platformers, enjoy chiptune arrangements, and want a challenge built on weapon management and pattern recognition, especially those already familiar with the Touhou fan scene.

Verdict: a loving, mechanically faithful retro tribute that rewards nostalgia and good ears alike.
