Synopsis
Late 21st Century Tokyo, after the Great Kanto Earthquake.

*Mirror, Yashiro, and new character become romance options
*Yuki, Gin, and Shio are romance options in the previous title “Cocoon”
*Playable without having experienced the previous “Cocoon”
Editorial Review
Cocoon BN plants itself firmly in the harder end of boys’ love science fiction—a space where cyberpunk infrastructure and emotional isolation matter as much as romantic tension. The synesthesia tag combined with a protagonist defined by the “Artist” skill suggests this isn’t chasing conventional romance beats; instead, it’s building narrative weight around perception and sensory dissonance in a controlled, monitored society.
What distinguishes this work is its commitment to world-building that pressurizes the romance. The Sky Implant system creates a premise where intimacy and freedom are genuinely incompatible—Hajima’s isolated apartment existence isn’t mere character quirk but a logical response to living under systematic control. The setting (post-earthquake Tokyo, late 21st century) grounds the speculative elements in geographic specificity, and the intellectual tag paired with synesthesia suggests the game leans toward exploring how altered sensory perception shapes connection and desire rather than wallowing in fantasy wish-fulfillment.
The structure acknowledging both returning and new romance options indicates branching paths with narrative weight. Whether players engage with the previous Cocoon or begin here, the design respects player agency without demanding homework—a mark of considerate development in franchise works.
The serious tone combined with boys’ love positioning appeals specifically to readers seeking emotional complexity over titillation, those invested in how power dynamics (systemic and interpersonal) complicate desire, and players who expect their visual novels to engage with thematic material. The intellectual framework here suggests conversations about autonomy and connection rather than romance-as-escape.
A genuinely ambitious BL science fiction title that treats its cyberpunk premise as essential to understanding why these characters want each other. Recommended for players who want their emotional stakes tangled with worldbuilding.
