Ultra Short RPG: Ogre Slaying [Mizukusa]

Editorial Review

★3.7 / 5 — henhenta editorial rating (our own assessment, not the DLsite official user score)

Ultra Short RPG: Ogre Slaying sits squarely in the micro-narrative fantasy action category—a growing niche of DLsite releases that prioritize completion time over scope. Unlike sprawling dungeon crawlers or romance-heavy visual novels, this Mizukusa work opts for the mechanical directness of classic Dragon Quest-style gameplay compressed into a single arc.

The appeal here hinges on efficiency and mechanical clarity. Built in RPG Maker VX Ace, the work delivers exactly what its title promises: a village, an ogre, and the straightforward loop of preparation, combat, and resolution. This no-nonsense approach stands out against the current glut of overstuffed doujin RPGs that layer dating mechanics, elaborate skill trees, and narrative padding into 20+ hour experiences. There’s a disciplined minimalism to Ultra Short RPG that some will find refreshing and others may perceive as slight. The “straightforward” tag indicates this isn’t attempting subversion, dark twists, or narrative complexity—just a clean fantasy premise executed without pretense.

The technical requirement for RPG Maker VX Ace RTP is worth noting for accessibility; players will need to download the runtime engine separately, which adds friction to the immediate play experience compared to standalone releases.

This work appeals most to players seeking a palate cleanser between longer titles, those nostalgic for early-2000s JRPG design, or anyone curious about how minimal a complete game can be while still offering satisfying mechanical progression. It’s a solid entry point for audiences fatigued by scope creep in adult games.

A tightly executed micro-game that respects your time without sacrificing the fundamental satisfaction of turn-based fantasy combat.
