Synopsis
An original gender transformation (TS/reversible) visual novel game.
The protagonist, Urakaze Midori, is a student living in a coastal town. After a transfer student and underclassman, Akizuki Ruri, joins, the two of them become the only members of the school swimming club.
One day, the protagonist finds a dolphin-shaped hairpin on a nearby beach. During club activities, he playfully puts it on and transforms into an unfamiliar girl. Spotted by his underclassman, he hastily lies about joining the club as a new female student.
From then on, a double life begins—as both club captain and new female recruit. Through this, the protagonist discovers something hidden in his underclassman’s past. He also begins interacting with his long-time friend Nowaki Arashi as this mysterious new girl.
In the school’s final summer, as the sound of waves echoes… whose voice will the protagonist hear?
Intended to be serious but ended up as an incomplete romantic comedy. Personal tastes resulted in a higher proportion of yuri content.
Made using Kirikiri2 and KAG3. Please test the trial version beforehand.
Editorial Review
Gender transformation remains one of doujin visual novel’s most versatile narrative devices, and *The Voice of That Sea* positions itself squarely within the romance-focused subset rather than fetish-driven territory. This is a school-set yuri visual novel where transformation mechanics serve plot and emotional discovery rather than existing for their own sake.
What distinguishes this work is its commitment to the dual-life setup as genuine dramatic tension. The synopsis suggests a protagonist juggling identities isn’t played purely for comedic relief—the deception creates real stakes with established characters, particularly the underclassman whose past becomes intertwined with the protagonist’s transformed persona. This layering of secrets and hidden histories elevates the premise beyond simple wish-fulfillment. The combination of TS mechanics with legitimate mystery elements (what is Ruri’s backstory? why does the hairpin exist?) is uncommon enough in the visual novel space to merit attention. The self-aware tone—the creator’s note about it being “intended to be serious but ended up as an incomplete romantic comedy”—signals a work comfortable with tonal ambiguity, which can either enhance or undermine emotional payoff depending on execution.
The coastal setting and the recurring metaphor of “the sound of waves” suggests atmospheric world-building beyond typical school VN backgrounds. Swimming club dynamics between only two members creates natural isolation and intimacy that many creators fail to properly exploit.
The yuri tag combined with a male-to-female protagonist creates an interesting identity question: this isn’t standard sapphic romance, but something more psychologically complex about orientation, authenticity, and desire during transformation.
Target audience: readers who prefer character-driven transformation narratives with romance stakes over pure comedy or fetish content, and those drawn to supernatural school mysteries with atmospheric seaside settings.
Verdict: A competent TS visual novel that treats transformation as catalyst for genuine emotional entanglement rather than novelty, though its self-described incompleteness warrants cautious expectations.
