A tragic tale of a small village nestled deep in the mountains, far from civilization.
One hundred ri northeast of Edo lay a small village. Its name was ‘Oni-ga-fuchi Village.’
Known only to a select few in Edo, this village harbored a dark secret.
It accepted and bore the calamities, plagues, curses, and yokai that would otherwise befall Edo—serving as a sacrificial village. Thus, more than half the villagers were onmyoji who made their living through spiritual practices.
At some point, a ‘guardian tree’ took root in the village. No one remembers when it happened, but the massive tree became enshrined as the village’s protector.
With its commanding presence, the tree became known as the ‘Spirit Sound Tree.’
The Reion Temple family manages this sacred tree—an onmyoji clan like any other living in Oni-ga-fuchi Village.
As village leaders, the Reion Temple family continues to protect the great tree, for the village and above all, for their clan’s survival.
