Synopsis
You’re drowning in debt when the shady dealer Luke Tabo offers you a job: salvage valuables from an enemy warship destroyed in battle.
“I take seventy percent, you get thirty. Pay off your debt from your cut.”
The damaged ship’s corridors hide weapons, armored suits, anti-ship missiles, and officers’ personal treasures. But what seemed like an unguarded treasure trove awakens something dangerous—the security AI ARGUS.
With your escape route gone, you must pilot an armored mech, find another way off the ship, and haul back as much as you can carry. Your debt isn’t going anywhere.
What do you grab? What do you leave behind? When do you run?
This is a single-player SF gamebook where you read the story and choose your actions.
■ Explore 16 Sectors
Weapon storage, hangar, cafeteria, supply depot, officers’ quarters, captain’s bridge—discover everything from military hardware to personal effects.
■ Plunder Without Price Tags
Is that luxury cigar authentic? Do you load heavy military gear or compact antiques? You’ll only know what it’s worth if you survive.
■ Swap Mechs and Fight Your Way Through
Combat uses a simple Fighting Fantasy system with skill checks and dice. Swap weapons and parts to change performance, and use repair kits to restore damaged units.
■ The Longer You Stay, the Harder Escape Becomes
Your mech pilot needs water and food. Enemy patrols increase over time, security units deploy at key points, and explored sectors lock down.
■ Choose Your Cargo and Your Future
Escape alone in a pod or repair the transport shuttle for a bigger haul. Your ending changes based on survival, remaining debt, funds on hand, and who you save.
Survival means nothing if another dangerous job awaits. Earn enough and you can rest for a while. Or the enemy pilot you rescued might become your next partner.
What will you take from this warship?
Editorial Review
Drifting Battleship Salvage occupies a surprisingly underexplored niche: the tactical survival gamebook powered by genuine resource-management tension rather than just narrative branching. Where most choice-driven SF works lean toward relationship mapping or moral ambiguity, this one derives its drama from the mechanics of greed—you’re constantly weighing immediate gains against escape velocity, inventory weight against mech load capacity. The synergy between its gamebook structure and the resource-scarcity premise is what distinguishes it from the broader pack of military SF adventures flooding DLsite.
The work’s strongest asset is its thematic clarity around the actual theft. Rather than euphemizing looting, it leans into the moral compromise of the salvager role—you know Luke Tabo is shady, you know the percentages are exploitative, and the game asks you anyway: which officer’s personal effects are worth your life? This specificity (luxury cigars, personal treasures alongside weapons) grounds the fantasy in texture instead of abstraction. The sixteen-sector structure suggests meaningful environmental variety too, and the ARGUS antagonist adds genuine time pressure to what could otherwise be a leisurely collection sequence. A single mech piloting system prevents this from becoming pure fetch-quest padding.
The main risk: execution depends entirely on whether the choice architecture actually delivers meaningful weight-and-consequence calculations. If sectors feel interchangeable or the carrying capacity system isn’t properly integrated into the narrative pacing, the premise collapses.
For tactical-minded readers who want their interactive fiction paired with genuine resource puzzles, and who prefer grounded sci-fi morality (the amoral heist over the ethical quandary), this delivers the right kind of pressure. If you want your gamebooks thinking about logistics as narrative, Drifting Battleship Salvage plays where few others do.
