Reason for running [CRUCIFY]

Home R18 Games Reason for running [CRUCIFY]

    Synopsis

    How to Play:

Control a first-person perspective runner, avoid obstacles while racing toward the goal while competing against enemies.

Obstacles can be avoided by moving left or right, or by using slide and jump actions.

Speed-up objects will increase your speed temporarily, but colliding with any obstacle will impede your movement.

Some obstacles will cause you to lose one shield upon collision.

Your runner is equipped with 5 shields. Colliding with an enemy costs one shield but slows down the enemy. However, if your shields reach 0, it’s game over.

Coins found along the way can be collected. If you finish in the top 5 and advance to the next stage, you can use 2 coins to restore 1 shield, or 5 coins to increase your runner’s speed by 1.0.

As stages progress, enemies become faster, so you’ll need to actively upgrade your speed to keep up.

If you finish slower than 5th place, you’ll have to retry the current stage.

Press the view button during gameplay to force a game over and exit.

Your current status is saved when advancing to the next stage or upon game over.

The first stage has only 2 types of obstacles, but as you progress, more varieties appear—up to 14 different obstacle types at maximum.

Clear stage 25 to reach the ending.

    Editorial Review

Reason for Running positions itself as a competitive first-person runner in the arcade mold, blending action-game fundamentals with progression mechanics borrowed from roguelike design. It’s a genre combination that’s largely absent from the adult game space, where narrative-driven visual novels and turn-based mechanics typically dominate. The work prioritizes mechanical depth over story, which immediately signals its niche appeal within the DLsite ecosystem.

The distinctive hook here is the shield-based collision system paired with coin-gated upgrades that force meaningful resource decisions between runs. The competitive ranking mechanic—requiring top-five placements to advance—creates genuine stakes absent in most casual runners. The speed escalation curve, where enemies accelerate alongside stage progression, demands active stat investment rather than passive skill improvement. These systems suggest thoughtful design that respects player time and agency. The first-person perspective adds spatial tension compared to traditional side-scrolling runners, and the multi-directional movement (left, right, slide, jump) provides genuine tactical options within the rapid-response framework.

The android and robot tags hint at a thematic coherence, though the synopsis withholds narrative specifics entirely. This isn’t a weakness—CRUCIFY’s decision to center mechanical engagement over plot is honest and appropriate for an action title. Coins as progression currency and shield restoration create a loop that rewards both skilled and strategic play, inviting replayability across multiple difficulty spikes.

This work will resonate with players seeking mechanical rigor and arcade-style challenge in their independent games, particularly those fatigued by visual novel bloat. Casual players expecting relaxation should look elsewhere; this demands focus and iterative improvement.

A genuinely engaging arcade experience that trusts its mechanics rather than compensating with narrative excess—exactly what the adult game space needs more of.
