Synopsis
During the reign of the seventh Tokugawa shogun Ietsugu, a secret affair between Ejima, a powerful lady-in-waiting of the Ooku, and Ikushima Shingoro, a kabuki actor of the Edo Nakamuraza, scandalizes the nation. Ejima is exiled, the Yamauramza is abolished, and over 1,500 people are implicated. Edo becomes consumed by rumors.
Two years later, following Ietsugu’s death and the ascension of the eighth shogun Yoshimune, a trunk containing an actor named Momonosuke is delivered to Fujio, an elder lady of the Ooku.
