Synopsis
◎Story
The protagonist faces the final winter break of school life. Just as their ordinary days seem to continue, an invitation from a close friend sets the story in motion. Your own youth awaits within…
◎About This Work
This is a remake of the 1995 PC game “Classmate 2.” The remake scenario is based on the 1997 “Classmate 2 (Windows version)” with adjustments to meet current ethical standards. Heroine sprites and event CGs have been redrawn by original artist Sumeragi Kohaku. Map screens and UI have been refined to full HD.
Two gameplay modes are included: Easy Mode allows checking heroine locations and flags, while Classic Mode removes these aids. Both modes feature improved UI/UX, CG galleries, scene viewing, and quick save functionality.
New H-scenes have been added with 2 newly drawn CGs per character. Story H-scenes now include an “ADV Mode” with newly written scenarios.
Editorial Review
This is a nostalgic modernization of a landmark early-90s visual novel, executed with the kind of technical respect that suggests genuine preservation rather than cynical rereleasing. Classmate 2 Remake occupies a peculiar position in the current doujin landscape—it’s simultaneously a museum piece and a functional contemporary product, comparable to how retro game preservation has become a legitimate publishing category rather than mere archival curiosity.
What distinguishes this remake is its transparent dual approach to accessibility. The inclusion of two distinct gameplay modes reveals sophisticated understanding of its audience: Easy Mode serves players new to the original who want narrative clarity without the obtuse flag-hunting that characterized 90s visual novels, while Classic Mode preserves the friction for veterans seeking authentic experience. This isn’t handholding disguised as inclusion—it’s structural integrity paired with player agency. The technical overhaul to full HD, combined with original artist Sumeragi Kohaku redrawing character sprites and event CGs, maintains visual coherence rather than the jarring pastiche that plagues rushed remakes. The addition of ADV Mode for story H-scenes with newly written scenarios addresses a legitimate gap between the vanilla narrative and explicit content, treating these sequences as integrated story moments rather than bolted-on diversions.
The school setting harem structure is hardly novel, but the “excellent scenario” designation paired with ethical revisions suggests this tackles the material with thematic substance—the winter break framing hints at genuine character resolution rather than arbitrary routing.
This is essential for completionists and visual novel historians seeking the source material in playable condition. For genre newcomers drawn to beginner-friendly tags, the quality-of-life features make the 1997 design philosophy actually navigable. For those already saturated with school setting harems, the nostalgia value may not justify revisiting familiar terrain, even in restoration.
