Demon’s Hostage

    Synopsis

The second installment of the “Demon” series based on Sasazawa Saho’s original work, which gained acclaim for its intense portrayal of love and desire between a man and woman in extreme circumstances. At a remote villa in Izu, an office worker named Fumiyoshi (Sawada), who has come to this memorable place to attempt suicide after losing in love to her boss, is discovered by three bank robbers on the run: Omachi, Takao, and Mariko (Natsuki). Omachi and Takao, the ringleaders, are on the brink of conflict over the division of money. While Takao and Mariko indulge in carnal lust downstairs, Omachi assaults Fumiyoshi. The next day, a patrol car arrives at the villa searching for the missing daughter Natsuko (Inoue). With Fumiyoshi’s help, Omachi escapes the crisis. Meanwhile, Mariko meets with her ex-husband Kuno (Kobayashi), recently released from prison, to plan the theft of the stolen money. However, her betrayal fails, and she is shot down by the now-brutalized Takao. Kuno is next to fall. Takao’s bestial fangs turn toward Fumiyoshi and Natsuko, who has wandered into the villa. Omachi, who now feels love for Fumiyoshi, is himself gravely wounded. Sawada Kazumi, cast in the lead role as a “fresh and surprising actress,” delivers a compelling performance.

    Editorial Review

The second installment of the “Demon” series exemplifies Nikkatsu’s Roman Porno formula at its most deliberately transgressive: crime drama scaffolding designed to justify sustained depictions of sexual violence and coercion. It positions itself within the late-period pink film tradition that treats extreme circumstances—robbery, captivity, murder—as narrative permission structures rather than genuine thematic exploration.

What distinguishes this entry is its commitment to the hostage dynamic as both plot engine and erotic framework. The synopsis reveals a deliberate escalation: the accidental discovery of Fumiyoshi creates a forced proximity that generates sexual scenarios, which then paradoxically become the mechanism of her survival and agency. The introduction of Mariko introduces competing female vulnerability and predation within the criminal hierarchy, complicating the simple victim-perpetrator binary that lesser entries in this subgenre maintain. The inclusion of violence (Mariko’s shooting) suggests the work resists softening its material—consequences exist, though they’re positioned within the carnal logic rather than external to it.

The office worker tag signals a specific appeal: the contrast between mundane professional identity and extreme sexual circumstance, a Nikkatsu staple that indexes both social alienation and fantasy transgression. The series designation indicates this isn’t a standalone experiment but part of an ongoing exploration of how extreme love and desire function under duress, building on the first installment’s reception.

This will appeal exclusively to viewers specifically seeking Roman Porno’s particular blend of narrative crime drama and non-consensual sexuality—those invested in the subgenre’s aesthetic and philosophical commitments rather than casual viewers of adult content. The work makes no concessions toward softening its premise or distancing itself from its transgressive core.

Uncompromising in its vision, even if that vision demands considerable tolerance for its specific brand of extremity.
