Synopsis
Based on Nakayama Chigaku’s erotic novel of the same name, master director Fujita Toshihachi crafts an expansive work of eros that focuses on the emotional turmoil of middle-aged hearts. Katoh (Kishibe) and his wife Masako (Ohtani) attend the funeral of an old friend. On the way back, they encounter Yamazaki (Emoto) and his young lover Riko (Ishida) at a familiar establishment. Riko leaves early feeling out of place, while the other three begin drinking at Masako’s apartment. Aroused by Yamazaki’s caresses, Masako has sex with Katoh. Hearing their moans, Yamazaki goes to Riko’s apartment but finds only her younger sister Yuko (Takahashi) there, causing friction between the couple. Yamazaki calls Katoh’s house and arranges to drink with Masako, which leads them to a love hotel. Their affair continues until Katoh discovers it, prompting Masako to flee to Yamazaki’s home. Ohtani Naoko and Ishida Eri deliver compelling performances across two generations of women, with Ohtani’s fearless acting being particularly breathtaking.
