Synopsis
◆Story
Deep within a forest at the edge of the world stands a temple dedicated to a phallic deity. The absurdly-shaped sacred object, the revered Kurobikari, is enshrined within.
Legend has it that a magical creature dwelling there can grant any wish. Female swordsman Chloe enters this cursed land to break a dog’s curse upon her—unaware of the price she must pay to have her wish fulfilled.
◆System
The game features 3 stages. Upon death, all items (except certain equipment) are lost and you restart from the beginning. However, character level and weapon upgrade values are retained. There’s also a storage function to deposit one piece of equipment. All treasure chest items and equipment drops are randomized, so powerful gear can be obtained unexpectedly.
◆Specifications
・Playtime: 4-6 hours
・24 base CGs (148 including variations)
・27 scenes (19 normal scenes, 5 battle H-scenes, 3 endings)
・System voice included, H-scenes fully voiced
・In-game language selection: Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese
Editorial Review
Dark of Chloe plants itself firmly in the roguelike-adjacent dungeon crawler space where mechanical progression and sexual content intertwine. The phallic deity premise and curse-breaking narrative signal SUGAR STAR’s comfort with absurdist framing—treating adult scenarios as natural extensions of fantasy worldbuilding rather than bolted-on afterthoughts. This approach, paired with randomized loot mechanics, positions the work as something between a traditional RPG and a dedicated adult game, a niche but persistent category within the doujin landscape.
The randomized equipment system with persistent level growth is the mechanical backbone here, creating genuine replayability across three stages. The roguelike structure—permanent item loss on death minus retained progression—directly informs how encounters feel; players can’t simply grind to dominance and must adapt to variable gear availability. The inclusion of a storage function mitigates frustration without eliminating stakes, a thoughtful design choice. Seventeen variations per base CG and full voice acting for all sexual content signal solid production values, though 4-6 hours of playtime suggests a focused rather than expansive experience.
What distinguishes this from standard adult dungeon crawlers is the marriage of mechanical depth with narrative consequence. Chloe’s curse forms the story scaffold, and the “price to have her wish fulfilled” phrasing implies the sexual content flows from plot necessity rather than pure fan service—a structural choice that appeals to players seeking thematic coherence. The battle H-scenes (5 of 27) appear integrated into combat rather than separated into a gallery, suggesting environmental vulnerability as gameplay element.
Players seeking a competent roguelike with substantial adult content, vocal performances, and enough mechanical meat to justify multiple runs will find their investment rewarded here. Those prioritizing narrative depth or character development should temper expectations—this prioritizes systems and sexual content over storytelling.
