Medieval Eurodia is divided into three: those who pray, those who fight, and those who cultivate. The Kingdom of Lithvia, located in the central-east of Eurodia, is surrounded by neighboring nations and has long been influenced by adjacent powers. Even now, it is caught between two opposing forces.

To the northwest and north lies a vast labyrinth forest inhabited by a confederation of Minotaur tribes. To the north also borders the Kingdom of Almechia. In recent years, as land reclamation projects have progressed, conflicts with the Minotaur tribe have increased, with repeated raids on border villages and towns. Two years ago, a major military campaign to subjugate them ended in crushing defeat. Even after a peace accord, Minotaur incursions and plundering continue.

There is talk of joining forces with northern neighbor Almechia for another subjugation attempt, but Almechia’s response is lukewarm. Almechia follows the Holy Cross faith, while Lithvia follows the Eastern Cross faith. Almechia wishes for Lithvia’s conversion and for the Queen to marry Almechia’s king—demands Lithvia cannot accept.

Minotaur attacks and plundering constantly deplete border forces, creating a dangerous gap in national defense. Should the Queen implement a peace tax to buy peace with gold, or strengthen military forces? Post-plague recruitment is uncertain. As a desperate measure, monks are ordered to fortify their monasteries near the border. This order reaches the Berenshu Monastery where the protagonist Astol serves…
