With those words, a figure appeared before Takenouchi Yōjin—another entity wearing the face of Chise, the troubled ex-girlfriend he broke up with yesterday. Calling herself Kageko, her true identity is a ‘Shapeshifter’—a shadow anomaly that infiltrates society by consuming and mimicking other creatures.

Kageko has absorbed Chise but keeps her preserved within her body. She proposes a temporary arrangement: “Let me live as your girlfriend for a set period. If you do, I’ll safely release Chise.”

What begins as a provisional relationship soon reveals an unexpected bond. Through his time with Kageko, the exhausted Yōjin finds his heart healing, rediscovering the joy and fulfillment of caring for someone. Yet this very connection brings him to a truth he cannot avoid—that the girlfriend before him is an ‘inhuman existence’ bound by laws unlike our own.

And with that truth comes the bittersweet, painful memories that make Yōjin who he is.
