Editorial Review
This is a visual novel disguised as manga—Nevers*sta in the library operates as a choice-driven adventure game built in Kiri Kiri, positioning itself firmly in the suspense-school-BL intersection that’s grown increasingly crowded but remains underserved at higher production values. The work distinguishes itself immediately through its premise: a mystery anchored not in supernatural romance but in genuine dread, where a presumed drowning death catalyzes a séance that spirals into something darker than ghost stories. The dual-protagonist structure and explicitly acknowledged boys’ love storyline suggest narrative branching designed to reward multiple playthroughs—a technical strength in visual novels that demands careful execution to avoid feeling padded.
What’s notable here is the restraint in appeal. The creators explicitly flag the absence of erotic or gore content, which is genuinely rare positioning in BL-tagged doujinshi; instead, they’re betting on psychological tension, blood and violence as plot devices rather than fetish content, and the friction between “uneasy bonds” among the five assembled students. The 28-ending structure hints at meaningfully divergent routes rather than cosmetic variations, while the 98 CGs without variations suggests deliberate artistic economy—every illustration carries narrative weight rather than serving titillation padding. The “Girls’ Side” tag remains cryptic without fuller context, but combined with “not many girls,” it implies either protagonist flexibility or a narrative where the absence of female presence becomes thematic.
This targets readers who value supernatural mystery mechanics over conventional romance, who appreciate BL as character trajectory rather than primary content, and who have patience for visual novel pacing. It’s a work for players comfortable interrogating narrative structure as gameplay, willing to chase multiple endings for lore completeness, and seasoned enough to parse suspense built from dialogue tension rather than jump scares.
A genuinely unusual entry in the BL-adventure space—recommend for players seeking substance over spectacle.
