Morning Glory Does Not Know the Night

Synopsis

I awoke to the cry of a seagull. Through the sun-drenched train window, I watched the ocean swell from yesterday’s rain, spray rising as the train pressed forward. The summer sun gleamed white, and the wake trailing behind the train was white as well. The sky shifted through shades of blue—azure, indigo, cerulean. Ahead, a tranquil remote island where seagulls gathered floated into view, impossibly verdant.

Does my heart leap with excitement? Or am I crushed beneath mounting anxiety? There is only one thing I know for certain: on that island, a life without night is about to begin.
